Sunday 24th February saw the first of three girls' Xrugby 7s tournaments in Hampshire.
These tournaments are bring run during the county season to enable teams to keep playing despite losing players to the county team.
Our own Emily Neil played in the Hampshire team on Saturday, scoring two tries and getting a conversion to add to them. We are all very proud of her achievements.
Today we had 12 players, two of which were girls from Winchester who we enjoy having as part of our team. The girls organised themselves to decide who was on when, making sure everyone felt that they had equal game time.
We played Trojans, Havant and Basingstoke in our pool, losing only to Basingstoke, but topping the pool. We then played Baasingstoke again in the final and unfortunately lost but developed a new found skill of holding Basingstoke up on the try line on three occasions.
Every single one of the team gave everything they had. As a team they worked together with a game plan that worked for them- an offloading, running, stepping fast game, but as they played they realised that skills such as ripping the ball and mauling worked well for them too.
As coach I was so proud of how this team managed themselves and showed all the core values of rugby during the day.
The team was Ellen Morrish, Nell Trower, Daisy Osgood, Maddy Saddler, Jessica Jones, Freya Jones, Molly Metcalfe, Hannah Monk, Erin Cosgrove and Ellie Roberts plus Ruby and Charlotte from Winchester.
